For authors

How you get paid

The short version: you keep 80% of every sale, and we pay it out monthly.

The split

When someone buys your book — digital, physical, or a bundle of both — you keep 80% of the sale price. Inkwell keeps a 20% commission, which covers payment processing, hosting, and running the platform.

If you charge a shipping fee on a physical copy, that fee is passed through to you in full to cover postage — the commission only applies to the item price itself.

Free pieces published through Write don't generate any earnings, since readers aren't charged for them.

Donations

Readers can also donate directly to you from your profile or any of your book pages — donations are different from sales, so you keep 100% of every donation, no commission.

How payment works

Buyers pay through Paynow at checkout. Inkwell collects the full payment on your behalf, and your share builds up as your balance — you can see it any time on your Payments page once you're signed in as an author.

Payouts

We pay out author balances once a month, via EcoCash or bank transfer. Make sure your payout details are up to date — reach out via our contact page if you need to change how you're paid, or if a payout looks off.

Taxes

You're responsible for reporting and paying any taxes owed on your earnings from Inkwell.
